Bedtime, 2025, Dyed Cyanotype Fabric, 34’’x34’’
Bedtime
This piece, titled Bedtime, is meant to represent death and decay in a way that is not something to be feared, but rather something that can be soft and comforting like a blanket. For the project, I set out to create a quilt using cyanotype prints of decaying leaves. I wanted it to be at least the size of a baby blanket, and I wanted to utilize earthy tones. I dyed pieces of fabric using UV-activated dye, creating imprints of leaves and the shape of bones. The printmaking technique of cyanotype enhances my concept because I used natural resources like decaying leaves, which connects to the theme of nature and the natural process of decomposition.
The Beholder, 2025, Crocheted Yarn, 60’’x12’’
The Beholder
The Beholder highlights the difficulties of defining the self. It's easy to alter myself to please others. To conform to an image that has been laid out for me because that is what feels safest. Do I really know who I am? Through tracing my body and crocheting the shape, I have created something that resembles a person, but is vague in shape, full of holes and loose threads. This piece is pinned to the wall, confined by its own self rumination and locked in place. A husk of a human that is detached in its existence and unsatisfied in its form.
